COSMO SMITH Chief EngineerCrew
Cosmo was born on Prince Edward Island, Eastern Canada. Although it is the country’s smallest province, its pristine beaches, quaint fishing villages and rolling hills of rich fertile red soil make it a popular destination for tourists from around the world.
Cosmo’s passion for anything with a piston began at a young age and he has never looked back. Seasonal jobs on a tugboat and a 47 metre motor yacht preceded several years in the oil fields of Northern Canada and the Gulf of Mexico. Cosmo then attended the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Florida before working in the AMA Superbike Series and at the Ducati flagship store in Manhattan. Relocating to Western Australia in 2001, he spent several years as the mechanic and caretaker at the Fremantle Motor Museum, one of Australia’s largest private car and motorcycle collections. Australia’s resource and infrastructure boom was in full swing and so he entered the civil construction industry working on large projects, including tunnels and hospitals.
Cosmo has had a wanderlust since he was a child and during the last of several trips around the world, he was engaged to deliver a sailboat down the east coast of the USA. This journey rekindled his love of the ocean and, combined with the technical skills he had gained in other industries, he commenced his career as a marine engineer. He has since worked on several large motor yachts including the 73m Nobiscrug M/Y Siren, the 57m Amels M/Y Cleopatra and the 82m Abeking and Rasmussen M/Y RoMEA. He joined SALU in Spring 2016 as chief engineer.
Motorcycling and travel are Cosmo’s main passions and he has toured many countries including Scotland, Mexico, Switzerland and Italy.
