Rob was born in Leicester in the UK but subsequently moved south to Devon where he attended school in Tavistock on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. He later relocated to the seaside town of Salcombe on the south coast of Devon. Rob completed his education at Nottingham University, where he was awarded a degree in environmental studies and business administration. He now lives with his wife in Nice, South of France.

As a youngster, when he wasn’t cooking in restaurants, Rob spent every spare moment in or on the water, either windsurfing, rowing, waterskiing or dinghy racing on the fiercely competitive Salcombe Estuary. At this time he was also Junior Harbour Master, mentored by merchant seafarers, fishermen and the local lifeboat crew. It was one of these men that ‘whispered’ to him about the yachting industry.

After completing school, the obligatory gap-year took Rob on a six-month tour of twenty-two countries in Africa, after which he hitchhiked to the South of France in search of a job on a yacht. Beginning as an unpaid winch man racing on classic yachts in the Mediterranean and Caribbean was followed by several seasons as deckhand on large motor yachts. He then returned home for a three-year foray in sales in both Bristol and London. However, the lure of the sea proved too much and he once again returned to the Côte d’Azur.

Rob subsequently moved his way through the ranks on a number of yachts, most notably as chief officer on M/Y Sai Ram a 53m Benetti and captain of the 27m M/Y Ziacanaia in Trinidad & Tobago. With many seasons of chartering and cruising in the Mediterranean and Caribbean behind him, Rob brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to lead the crew on SALU.

Rob joined SALU in February 2014 after fifteen years in the industry.
